Sportsaid Launches New Online Tool For Talent
15 August 2006 – SportsAid, the charity for sportspeople, has today launched an updated website, sportsaid.org.uk, to improve support for the young athletes it helps. The new site has been developed by Gyro International, the integrated brand communications agency, as part of the £100,000 of consultancy support Gyro has committed to SportsAid this year.
SportsAid is the charity for sports people, helping the next generation of British sporting talent to succeed, across over 40 sports including disability disciplines. It helps aspiring young sportsmen and women through the support of corporate partners, other grant-giving organisations and individuals, at a key time in their sporting development, often when only mum and dad are covering the costs. The new website will be an active tool to complement this process and provide online support to the athletes themselves as well as the sport that has nominated them.
Former SportsAid grant recipients include Sir Steve Redgrave, Sir Matthew Pinsent, Dame Kelly Holmes, Lord Sebastian Coe, Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson, Amir Khan, Graham Thorpe and Ben Ainslie.
The new website has been completely updated in line with the new corporate identity but has also included a new NGBNet, to enable the National Governing Bodies (NGB’s) of sport to better submit and monitor their athlete nominations, and a new Applicant Zone, to help the athlete applicants themselves through the process – the Applicant Zone will go live once the next wave of athlete nominations have been received in September. These tools bring greater efficiency and transparency to everyone involved.
“This year SportsAid is celebrating 30 years of funding Britain’s talented young sportspeople and it is an ideal time for us to launch our new website,” said Tim Lawler, Chief Executive of SportsAid. “Often funding processes can be difficult to navigate and understand and the new site provides a single point of information for young athletes, their parents and coaches and for those interested in supporting our work. Gyro has great experience in improving communications and their energy and commitment to this project has been crucial. As a direct result, we have already started to see strong feedback from the NGB’s and an increase in interest in our work supporting young athletes.”
Gary Brine, CEO of Gyro International, said: “It has been great working with the SportsAid team over the past six months and we are delighted with the results of the programme so far. Our enthusiasm for this project remains as strong as it was on day one and we all remain very proud of providing this support to such a great charity.”
Gyro initially worked with the charity to review and redesign its corporate identity which was launched earlier in the year. The company is extending this help to bring further efficiency and effectiveness to SportsAid’s communications including a series of new promotional collateral and a regular e-newsletter.
